Funeral Service for Mr. Robert (Willie) Lee Amaker will be held 12:00pm Friday, June 8, 2018 at Jones Funeral Home with Interment to follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Amaker was born May 5, 1936 in Bull Swamp, SC a largely African American Community boarding Orangeburg and Lexington counties to the late Herbert Amaker Sr. and Julia McNeal of North, SC. Mr. Amaker quietly closed his eyes and began eternal rest on Monday, June 4, 2018 at White Oak Manor Nursing Home in Columbia, SC. He was the sixth of seven children born given by the heavenly father to this union. After relocating to West Columbia with his parents and siblings, Robert attended Lakeview School and attended Brookland Baptist Church. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 serving three years, being honorably discharge in May of 1957.
Robert was a skilled craftsman in drywall and cabinetry installation. During later years he worked security in California and South Carolina. He loves "Muscle" cars. His favorite was a 1966, maroon Super Sport.
Robert was preceded in death by his loving parents, three older brothers: Furman, Herbert II and Alton (Al); two sisters: Mary Kyler and Maxine Amaker.
He is survived by his daughter: Sonya Amaker (Willie Jr.) Dunbar of Swansea, SC; grandson: Malik of Swansea, SC; sister: Catherine E. Smith of Columbia, SC; devoted nephews: Don Williams and Danny Etheredge; a host of nieces, nephews other family and friends. Mr. Amaker was loved by all who knew him.
